Default The Pokemon Favorites Game

http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~m...lackwhite.html

Basically, it's a click game where you choose(click) your favorite Pokemon between two. It includes all Pokemon up to BW, so be prepared for quite a journey!

Unfortunately, I've betrayed a couple of my favorites out of purely not noticing them or not thinking hard enough- So be careful!

My favorite: Samurott, of course

Looks interesting. I'll have to try it out when I get some free time, but after my few moments I'm curious about the 2~10 at the bottom and even more curious if the elimination causes troubles in determining those.

Who knew.

Cool idea, but it took forever to filter out 648 Pokémon. I also have a feeling that if they appeared in a different order the results would be different (ex. pretty sure I really don't like Zebstrika, not sure how it ended up in there). I also definitely did not see Magikarp appear anywhere in the entire sequence of Pokémon who showed up D:

Here's what I got. No surprise who's on top.

But now let's see what's wrong. For one thing, I do not like Crocanaw or Shedinja. Next, Giratina beats out everyone on that list (besides the first two) a thousand times. This list is also missing Charizard, Pikachu, Buizel, and Petilil. The rest are okay, but the 2-10 is all outta order.

I do like Luxio, Mismagius and Latios, don't get me wrong. But they shouldn't be there.

Also Regice should be above Cradily.

At this point, I'm going to take a guess that the algorithm it uses to determine spots 2~10 is indeed the terrible one I thought up last night: once a Pokémon is eliminated, it never shows up again. This means that if, for instance, both your favorite and second favorite show up together almost immediately, your second favorite has absolutely no chance of showing up in that list. Given the previous posts nearly confirm it, I don't think I'm going to waste my time on it, especially because I know most of my top ten anyway.

It also gets very easy to misclick very quickly. Very nearly lost Dragonite and a few others a few times.

It pulls up all 649 Nat-Unova Pokémon randomly. Once you choose a single out of the pair, the eliminated one never returns. The last 9 to be eliminated are 2-10. Kind of primitive and time wasting.

Interesting. I don't quite agree with all of them and there were a lot of things that I really like that I had to get rid of, but it never really occurred to me how much I like ghost-types.

Then yes, indeed, this is rather silly at actually determining your true ranking of the 649. Of course, it becomes problematic when you consider how many iterations are required to run through. You have to sum the numbers from 649 − (n − 1) to 649, where n is the number of favorites you wish to show. I think that's correct.

Despite how buggy it is, I thought I'd give it a go, and to determine how accurate it could get, I tried it a few different times.

Attempt 1
1. Lilligant
2. Snivy
3. Rayquaza
4. Torchic
5. Gallade
6. Celebi
7. Carnivine
8. Jirachi
9. Meloetta
10. Whimsicott

Interesting choices. I do like them all, except Torchic has no business being there...

Attempt 2
1. Lilligant
2. Rayquaza
3. Snivy
4. Leafeon
5. Medicham
6. Escavalier
7. Deino
8. Celebi
9. Registeel
10. Latios

Alright, this time we have way more Pokémon who shouldn't be here. I don't even like Deino or Medicham. Intriguing that I've gotten Lilligant twice in a row.

Attempt 3
1. Lilligant
2. Rayquaza
3. Roserade
4. Leafeon
5. Dialga
6. Snivy
7. Scizor
8. Azelf
9. Carnivine
10. Latios

Probably the most accurate of the 3, though still not very accurate. But seeing as Lilligant placed 1st all three times, I guess it's not wrong for me to say that Lilligant's my favorite Pokémon. Who knew?

The top 1 is never expected to change. I mean, it's your favorite, you should know what your favorite Pokémon is. But the 2-10 is just unfairly placed and only reflects your actual likes part of the time. Shedinja and Crocanaw would never rank in my favorites, and Giratina would be in the top 3 because it's so wonderful and adorable~<3
