On the topic of names, Kabuto and Kabutops were going to be named Att and Lantis, and Gyarados was going to be called Skullkraken, which is one letter longer than the 10-character limit.

Did you know that in Red and Blue, Lickitung couldn't learn Lick?

Did you know that only 2 Pokémon evolve by using a Thunderstone (Pikachu and Eevee), despite it being a logical way for evolving Electric-types in general? No Pokémon which could be evolved by a Thunderstone was introduced in the subsequent generations, and the reason behind this is unknown.

Xatu is the only Pokémon whose name begins with an X
Sinnoh has 6 letters. All the other reegions have only 5: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn
Paralyz heal does not exist. The item is called Parlyz Heal.
In the Anime Episode "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak" Gastly transforms into a real mongoose, as the Pokmon Zangoose had not yet been introduced yet.

The first Pokeball ever shown in the entire anime (EP 001) was green, and the second was red. This was because the creators of Pokemon hadn't decided on a final Pokeball color yet.

There is perfectly logical explanation why that PokéBall was Green, It was an older model.

When pokemon owned by trainers ingame know hidden power. It's type is always fighting.

MissingNo. is actually the Kangashkan familiy line's data. The Kangaskan familiy WOULD HAVE gone like this: Cubone, Marowak, Kangaskan. But, at the last second, they said: "Let's make Kangaskan it's own pokemon.". So, they did, but it's data was still in the game, thus resulting in MISSINGNO.!

Meganium's generation II backsprites all had a riff of fur along the back of its neck. This is never been seen since.
Also, its Gold and Silver sprites had a petal pattern different from the Sugimori artwork. This was corrected in Crystal.

Actually, it was always green. The creators made a coloring error, as they did by making Feraligatr green in G/S. This was also corrected in Crystal, as was Raikou's sprite.

Isshu is the only main-series region that does not have an O sound in its name.

Rotom joins Magnemite and Magneton as the very few Pokemon to change types the generation after they were released. All the alternate formes change their Ghost-type to that of their signature move.

Isshu currently has the fewest number of routes in any main-series region - 18. As of Heartgold and Soulsilver, Johto has 20 routes, but was tied with Isshu in Gold and Silver.

The Elite Four of Isshu all have only four Pokemon, and can be battled in any order.

Generation V has the highest number of Pokemon of any generation, with 156.

The ???-type was removed in Generation V. Curse was made a ghost-type move.

The only two Bug-types that can learn Fly are both from generation V - Urugamoth and Genosect. Neither are Flying-type.

In Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow, one obtain EVERY Pokemon except Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Pidgeot, Graveler, Omastar, Kabutops, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Dragonite, Mewtwo, and Mew at level 20 or earlier.

Its true, but requires the use of Gold and Silver.

In one of the Pokemon Episodes (Specifically Haunter vs. Kadabra), Ash said ghost-types are strong against Psychic Pokemon, however, this wasn't true until generation 2 and at the time Ash said that ghost-types are strong against Psychic types, they had no effect on psychic-types what so ever.

There is yet to be a Dark type gym.

The Flying type has been combined with every other type except Fighting.

In the anime, Snubbull, Marril, Ho-Oh, Togepi, Donphan, Ledyba, Bellossom, Elekid, Hoothoot, Slowking and Lugia are all Johto Pokemon that appeared before the Johto season.

In the HGSS Pokedex book it says Dragon Pulse is a Physical move in the Pokemon Batte Primer section.

Gen V has the most steel-types of any generation, at 12. It also has the most bug-types, at 18. Finally, it has the most bug/steel types, at three.

Let's see,

In gen 5 you will finally be able to have a full bug/steel team.

Cyrus is supposedly 27 years old. Although its a little debatable based on Looker's strange style of speech.

There were no dragon moves in RGBY that dealt dragon damage. There was only dragon rage.

EVs didn't exist until Gen 3.

Critical hit ratio in the RGBY days was based on speed. So the faster you were, the higher chance you had of getting a critical hit.

So were OHKO moves. If you were faster, you could defeat higher-leveled Pokemon with Fissure (for example) in RGB.

Ash and Misty were never supposed to have any romantic feelings for eachother, contrary to popular belief.

Oh and Ash never payed Misty back that money for her bike. What's up with that?

Several of the RBY pokedex entries compare the qualities of pokemon to elephants, even though no elephants or anything that even looked like elephants were in the pokemon world at the time.

Wartortle's ears have a different color and style in the anime promotional pictures.

The process of an Eevee evolution was not seen in the anime until 13 years in.

In Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue, Vaporeon's sprite is shown with fins on it's legs. These were taken out in yellow.

Flareon's sprites in Gen III Were seen as orange and yellow. Gen IV and on have used Red-Orange and Light Brown-yellow. The tints of these colors, however, have changed in every single game since then.

Umbreon is the only pure dark type through the first 2 generations. (This also makes it the last pokemon in the national dex to not share a type with a pokemon below it)

Umbreon is the only non-psychic type pokemon to know synchronize.

Rhydon may have been the very first pokemon designed, but the pokemon that started it all was Poliwhirl. This is also the creator of pokemon's favorite pokemon. (forget the name)

and just a little bonus that's not really trivia:
A T/F question found in an un-official pokemon book:
The ship Ash gets on in Vermilion City is the S.S. Anne
The answer in the back:
False. It's called the S.S. Anne

Zekrom and Reshiram are programmed to never be found in their shiny forms.
The mascot legendary must be caught to progress in Black and White. If it is defeated, you gain zero experience and the game restarts the battle as if it never happened.
If your party and all boxes are full, it can be defeated and it will reappear at Dragon Spiral Tower.
Archeos's Base Stat Total and National Dex number are the same, 567.
Bronzor's original back sprite was the same as its front sprite.

Victini is programmed to never be shiny.
Charmander once had a small row of spikes down its back. These were then removed in Yellow.

In Pokémon XD: Gales of Darkness, there are two Generation IV Pokémon; Munchlax and Bonsly. Out of the two of them, Bonsly was playable, but only through the Battle Simulator.
Pokémon who's names are palindromes(Same forwards as backwards) are Eevee, Girafarig, and Ho-Oh.

My guess is that there will be a shiny Victini event.

I had one, but then I forgot it. Let's see... *racks brain*
Ah, yes. Found something about Metapod.

Grass-type Pokemon utilize the most amount of stones for evolution, with a total of four:

Leaf Stone (Gloom -> Vileplume, Weepinbell -> Victreebel, Exeggcute -> Exeggutor, Nuzleaf -> Shiftry, Pansage -> Yanakkie)
Water Stone (Lombre -> Ludicolo)
Sun Stone (Sunkern -> Sunflora, Monmen -> Erufuun, Churine -> Doredia)
Shiny Stone (Roselia -> Roserade)

Taking off of what GPFTW said, HO-OH, written in all caps, is (technically) the only english word that can be flipped 180 degrees, and still be the same word.

I just came up with a lot here (about Grass types, of course. ):

Paras and Parasect are the only Pokemon that can have a 5x weakness to Fire (Only if Dry Skin is their ability)

Only two Pokemon that are part-Grass type have a unique typing (Torterra and Rotom-C)

Every single Pokemon affiliated with mushrooms (Paras, Parasect, Shroomish, Breloom, Tamagetake, and Morobareru) are all classified as the "Mushroom Pokemon".

Every Grass type except Snover and Abomasnow can learn Sunny Day, but Roserade and Arceus (Grass) are the only Grass types that learns a Fire-type move that causes damage (Weather Ball in the sun for Roserade, Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Devastate for Arceus).

Rotom-C is the only Grass Pokemon incapable of learning both Energy Ball and Solarbeam.

Sunkern has the lowest base stat total, but can have full marks in all Pokethlon stats.

Even though Kurumiru and Kurumayu do not have wings (or sword-like arms, for that matter), they are capable of learning Air Slash.

Lileep is the only purple Grass-type.

Tamagetake and Morobareru's Pokeball takes on the same color of a Master Ball when the Pokemon is shiny.

All Pokemon with 7 weaknesses are part Grass-type (Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Celebi).

Seedot only learns one move with a set damage power by level-up. (Explosion)

Nuzleaf's lowest stat (Defense) is its pre-evolution's highest stat. In fact, Seedot's Defense is higher than Nuzleaf's. (Seedot's is 50, Nuzleaf's is 40)

Tesshido only learns one Grass-type move by level up; even so, it is not a damaging move. (Ingrain)

Mebukijika's Summer Forme has its tail up, instead of all of the other seasonal sprites, in which the tail droops.

Roserade can legitimately be Level 1.

Though 5 Pokemon have the Grass/Flying type, Tropius is the only one which actually has wings.

Bellossom is smaller than Oddish, and barely heavier than it. Also, though on many occasions that Bellossom appears in the anime, it dances (especially since it is based on a hula dancer), Bellossom cannot learn any dance-related moves by level-up, and can only learn Swords Dance by TM.

5 Grass Pokemon do not have a Dream World ability. Those five would be Cherubi, Cherrim, Carnivine, Tesshido, and Nattorei.

Dunno if these are well-known or not, but some things I've noticed:

The worldwide releases of Pokémon Red and Blue were based off of the Japanese Blue, not Red or Green (hence why those versions have different sprites for every Pokémon).

Golbat's tongue is only seen in his original Red and Blue sprite and the two Stadium games.

Clefairy's feet have many different designs in all kinds of media - sometimes they point downward and end in a spike-like shape, other times they're like regular feet with a sharp nail at the end, and lastly they sometimes (oddly) have that nail under the foot rather than in front.

To date, there has never been a legit way to obtain Celebi outside of Japan (which will change next month).

James and Meowth's voice actors were changed before the show started airing in the states, but 4Kids never bothered to re-dub the older episodes before airing.

Pokémon Snap uses Pidgey's Japanese voice despite being changed in the show (there are probably other similar cases too, this is the only one I've noticed).

A lot of official artwork for the original 151 Pokémon used worldwide was based directly off of the original Red and Green sprites only seen in Japan.

A slight contradiction to that last statement, the Pokémon stickers on the all releases of Game Boy Camera use sprites from the original Red and Green games, aside from Mew who had the Red and Blue sprite (as no Mew stamp was featured in the original Japanese release), and Charizard and Venusaur's appearance on a background used the R&B sprites (presumably because they featured more current designs of the monsters), while Blastoise and Mewtwo on the same background used the original R&G ones. The Japanese version also had a lot more Pokémon stickers, all of which were from Red and Green.

Due to a translation error, a man on Cinnabar Island in Red and Blue claims that his Raichu evolved. This mistake stems from translating Blue's script directly, while adjusting the trades to those of Red and Green.

In the intro to the worldwide Pokémon Red, Nidoran makes a bouncy noise as he fights the Gengar, as does Jigglypuff in Blue - in Japan, however, this noise was only used for Jigglypuff in Blue, while Nidoran in Red and Green used more of a scratching noise instead (which can be heard in the first episode of the anime).

The intro to the original Red and Green ended with a still shot of Nidoran about to pounce on Gengar before fading to the title screen, while the Blue version and all worldwide releases faded to it directly after the pounce.

Until Gold and Silver's release stateside, the characters of Red and Blue were always referred to as Ash and Gary in every source of media (at least outside of Japan), the Pokémon Adventures comic aside. In some European countries, they were named Ash and Gary even in Pokémon Adventures, despite all the other main characters having color-based names.

I'll add any more that come to mind in the future.

I remember that episode! That huge Whiscash! If I remember correctly, it ate the Master Ball. XD

Pokemon has 57 episodes in which they break the fourth wall, along with 5 movies. Team Rocket is responsible for more than half of the episode breaks, and all of the movie ones.

Yet in another episode of the anime (I believe it was season 8), May's Munchlax ate the Pokeball thrown at it, and it still activated from the inside.

Quoted from Bulbapedia, from the First Movie (cause I'm not gonna bother re-typing all of it):
Quote:
When Team Rocket is disguised as two Vikings, Brock comments that he wasn't aware that they existed anymore. Ash replies saying that they mostly live in Minnesota, which is an obvious reference to the NFL team, the Minnesota Vikings.
However, in the Swedish dub, Ash replies that they live in Norway.
In the Norwegian dub, Ash tells the opposite of the Swedish dub and say they mostly live in Sweden.
In the Finnish dub, Ash tells that there are Vikings in Sipoo's archipelago.
In the Polish dub, Ash tells that they live in Scandinavia.
In the European Portuguese dub, Ash tells that they live in Vila Franca de Xira, a city located to the northeast of Lisbon.
In the Latin American dub, Ash tells that some play American Football.

The master ball can apparently fail. If you use it on a pokemon w/ a catch rate of 3, at full health, with no status ailments, there is a 0.4 chance of it failing. I don't know if that has been proven, but I've heard it before.

All Pokemon listed as a "mushroom Pokemon" debut in an odd numbered Generation.
Paras And Parasect - Gen I
Shroomish and Breloom - Gen III
Tamagetake and Morobareru - Gen V

Exeggcute can learn Egg Bomb in Gen I but loses it in Gen II onwards.

Mew can only learn 5 Moves by leveling up in Gen I and 6 moves in Gen II and III (The additional move it learns is Ancient Power).

Mew is also one of three Pokemon(not counting Gen V Pokemon or Smeargle) to that has kept the move Mega Punch in its moveset since its debut Generation (all three of which are Gen I Pokemon). Also, only 6 Pokemon can legitimately learn Mega Punch by leveling up on a DS Pokemon game (Hitmonchan, Kangaskhan, Mew, Regigigas, Gobitto, Goruugu)

Althought Shedinja can learn Substitute, it can not use it.

Bertha's Hippowdon in the anime is colored for a male one, while in the games, Hippowdon has the completely black color of a female Hippowdon.

Well here's one thing I noticed about Psyduck and Golduck.
Why do they have telekinetic powers but they are not psychic types? They are only water types.

Bulbapedia
Quote:
In some of its Pokédex entries, it mentions Golduck using telekinetic powers. Despite this, it is not a Psychic-type, but it can learn a few Psychic-type moves.

* Along with its pre-evolution Psyduck, it couldn't learn Psychic through TM until Generation IV, even though the TM itself existed in every generation.

Klink's family's shiny forms are based on copper. Copper goes green when rusted.
Foongus's family's shiny forms are based on master balls.

Oh, and post 800 btw.

Gigear/Klang and Gigigear/Klinklang's backsprites are incorrect. The little gear should be on the right, not the left.

Klinklang also has the same height, HP, Special Attack, and Special Defense as Klang.
Klang is the Gen V NFE with the highest Base Stat Total.
The Klink family are the only non-electric types able to learn Thundershock.

Using AR, you can play as Munchlax in the first Mystery Dungeon games. The game also recognizes that it can evolve into Snorlax in the cave, but it is impossible to do so.

EDIT: Remembered a fact about Yellow. If your Rival has Ninetales on his team when he's the champion, it will be his weakest Pokemon, knowing Tackle, Growl, Tail Whip, and Quick Attack, which means that he hasn't used any TMs on it or taught it Flamethrower (if it could learn that in Yellow, can someone check?).

Well, since I'm reading about trainer classes currently, did you know...

there is a May-December Couple in PBR? They use Ice + Grass types, respectively.

originally, Eusine was titled, "Mystical Man," and that was unique. However, in HGSS, they changed it to "Mystery Man," which he now shares w/ Ardos?

the only title introduced in HGSS is Elder. It was used in GS, but wasn't listed as Li's official title until the remakes?

never in the main series has an actual pokemon's name been used in a trainer class, but there have been some examples of this in spin-offs, such as Robo Groudon, or Pikachu Fan?

despite the fact that it has been stated multiple times that an age of 10 is required to train pokemon, there is a class called "Kindergardener," which is around the age of 6?

Rotom, Magnemite, and Magneton are the only Pokemon to ever change type in a later generation. All three are electric-type.

Gen V glitches:

Fan Rotom has both the ability Levitate and the type Flying. A small glitch exists that when it is given Iron Ball or forced to the ground any other way, Ground type attacks will do normal damage, when it should be super-effective.

In double/triple battles, if one of your Pokemon uses Free Fall on the opponent, and your other Pokemon uses Gravity, the Pokemon that used Free Fall and the opponent will be grounded, but the opponent will be unable to attack until the one that used Free Fall on it faints. The move has been banned in Wi-Fi battles for this reason.

Gen IV glitches:

When you use Sweet Scent/Honey in a Poke Mart and try to buy something, the selection list is completely blank. The sprites for the items are still visible, however.

Speaking of glitches.

Glitch in Gen 5 (Tested in Black, probably there too in White)

In a double battle, if both of YOUR Pokemon faint in the same turn, the player will not be able to switch out another Pokemon.
