Default The general conversation about anything

This topic can be used to let off your rants on anything you want (as long as it's within the forum rules and legal). The topic can change whenever, but please don't just reply "LOL" to someone's post and not contribute to the conversation.

I'll start.

So, how has your week been so far? Mine's been decent. I had to do some annoying homework yesterday (gotta love essay-writing) and kept getting distracting by articles on GamesRadar. I also had lots of luck with Pokémon cards (topic on Trading Card Game board).

I've had a very nice week so far. I'm not exactly looking forward to the Thanksgiving Break (since I'll be traveling to the middle of nowhere), but some good is bound to come of it.

Hah! The closest thing we get to a 'Thanksgiving Break' is a weekend. A normal one. Two days.
And I'm a bloody idiot, I tried to dual-boot by Vista laptop with XP and ended up breaking it. So what've you been up to lately?

Essays? Blech...
My week has been pretty good so far... I only have a half day tomorrow, and I don't know what I'm gonna do with myself. I did have two tests today (Chem and Gov't). I thought they were pretty easy. Quiz in Pre-Calc tomorrow... (ugh) I am looking forward to Thursday and Friday. How can I not look forward to Friday, with the tournament and all.

We were split up into two teams and first team to get all their players to the opposite side of the gym without being poked/smacked/touched by someone on the other team they win and alot of people were screaming because someone on the other team was chasing them and all of the screaming sounded like Yoshi.
(They were probably yelling "Oh sh**")

So, guys, when do you start your winter breaks, if any? Mine starts in two weeks. We're gonna pick up a Christmas tree over the weekend. A real one, too, not those plastic stupid fake ones.

The more I see "This is not allowed", "You can not do that", or "This is too big" on these forums, the more pointless this supposed mergence looks. Seriously, loosen up on the limitations.

Honestly I have no problem following the rules...because I haven't even gone and taken a look at them =p but I haven't broken any so far so im guessing the rules can be followed just by being polite and using common sense like not to spam or having mile long signatures.

As for christmas...were still using a crappy plastic set up tree. =p We had it for like 8 years now. X_x The real problem for me is I have no clue what I want for Christmas and its almost here. .-.

Jared, trust me, you're not the only one complaining about the forum rules. There was an incident a few months back which I'm not going to discuss, but all I'll say is it was about the forum's rules.

If you've spent as much time we have here, with all the nubby goingons and spats, you'd know why kinda pointless rules are established.

So, I went Christmas shopping today, and I couldn't find a copy of Phantasy Star 0 for me. Bull.

The rules are there because of crazy stuff and idiots. In fact, because I'm bored, I'll break them down.
1-21 are all obvious rules, the standard set that most forums have. Don't bother worrying about them to much, as PokéZam appears to have had nearly all of them in unwritten form. You probably were just expected to use common knowledge for those.
22 was because of a joke between me and the other mods/admins many months back. We kept spamming warnings to each other.
23 is obvious, but some people just don't get the point of their posts "magically disappearing" after they post them three times.
24 is because of a troll, again obvious.
25 is because of users who want their post count to be 100 in a day, so they bump old topics. Some topics, like ones that ask for user opinion (i.e. favorite Pokémon) are fine to bump, but "How do I fix this error" topics that were solved don't need bumping.
26 iz cuz i haet reading txt liek tihs nd it maks u look stoopid lol
27 is because I hate tall signatures (so I used PokéCommunity's idea of the sig block). They detract from the topic and just waste space.
28 is because I hate flamewars. Generational debates are the absolute stupidest Pokémon discussion I've seen on the Internet because of heavy nostalgia and bad logic.

Maybe you could try condensing them? Like, if 2 rules touch on similar topics you could just ammend the first one insted.

and 23 is simple: If you delete it and they repost it, punish them with an infraction (Btw it's cool that bb3 has infractions. bb2 doesn't...)

^This makes me feel like one of the facepunch moderators. QUICK, NIGHTWING, BEAT THESE DEMONS OUT OF ME!!!

26: I wholeheartedly agree with that rule...

27: What's pokecommunity? Are they commies?

28: Sometimes flame wars are good, though. As long as they have at least 2000 brain cells involved...

However, my last comment was because of me trying to get my universal avatar on here. The avatar was a URL-based one, but it still was above the limits that were set. If loading times are what you're worried about there, don't. Web browsers are automatically set to have images as low priority in loading, and should not affect the rest of the site.

If you're worried about longcat, then that's a different story <.<

I also tried to put an image in my signature, but was cut out for being over 200 pixels. 200 is the length of cricket. That is way too small for anything. ESPECIALLY A STAR SHIP.

Do you know what else I hate? I type in this box and it looks like a typed a lot, but then the post makes it look like barely anything.

Maekz meh cry :'(

But it didn't happen this time, though. Yay :3

ANYWAYS, let's shift the conversation to something more pleasant.

Such as: I turned off spellcheck in Firefox, does that make me cool?

That still doesn't top the plant communicator. A few years back, the Japanese tried to make a machine that translated energy waves from plants to try and see if they could communicate with them. They're also experimenting with teleportation technology.

HOWEVER, if they do, then we can easily post whatever we want that isn't against JP law, but illegal in <inert home country here> since the data will be in Japan.

Yeah. they are trying to recreate the transporter from star trek and it can teleport a few atoms at a time at this point.

I'd be really cautious about using that, even when it's finished. Soon enough they'll perfect it and it'll be the favoured way of transport, and everyone will have one in their house. Put in an address and you're away!

On a different subject, I'm now a Mewtwo rank! Awesome!

I still question their claim that what they are doing is actually 'true' teleportation, since from what I'm aware, they just use quantum entanglement to replicate the attributes of the original atoms in the target location, instead of 'moving' them. Call me picky about my theoretical future technologies

The only difference between teleportation and cloning is that the original is kept in cloning.

That's pretty much my bone with the concept of 'teleportation.' Not only is it basically just a quantum mechanics parlor trick, but it also raises questions about whether or not a person's consciousness could shift to the receiving location as well as their attributes. The system that to me would most resemble 'true' teleportation would be the conversion of an object to energy, which can then be transmitted at about light speed to the target location. The issue, of course, is that one person's mass would create an uncontainable amount of energy. Their current method of duplication, though, would easily solve the energy crisis and starvation if it could be adopted into a larger-scale technology, and to me, that would be a much more valuable use of the technology than teleportation.

Sony Vegas is much better than Windows Movie Maker when it comes to quality. Now, if it didn't take two freaking hours to process and upload, I might use it daily.

I never understood why higher-end renderings take longer to upload if YouTube just butchers the quality anyway.

It takes time to turn good stuff into crap. Just look at the digestive process. 10 hours, there.

I've been reading some scary stories, with pictures as visual aids. My question: Who in god's name makes these pictures? These are more messed up than the manson murders.

I got a Nvidia GTS 250 from Newegg using UPS as a delivery.
This happened:

What should I do? Just fix it? Return it for a new one?

Are you sure that's not how it's meant to be? If I were you I'd send it back. Unless it would take weeks, then I'd either take it down to my local PC repair store or attempt to fix it myself.

I've done stuff with graphics cards before, and that is definitely bad.

They said the replacement will take under 30 days, so I'll see if I can get it fixed/fix it.

Well, it's official. Windows Movie Maker is back to its crash happy, unreliable old self. Grumble Grumble.

Question: How can we use the fix tag for "Decorative purposes"? I've tested with it, and all it does is make that ugly(My apologies to the person who designed it) box, and the text can't be changed. You'd have to be a very boring person to believe it to be decorative.

If you are running for office, and doing this in, say, a political forum would hurt your chances of winning, don't do it.

The purpose of it being unappealing is for you to notice it, and fix the signature. I'm assuming the BB-Code simply ignores whatever parameters are passed; all it is, is a notice that saves all of the extra formatting work, and is not meant to be use decoratively in the first place.
