Default PotW 7: Empoleon

Pokémon Sprite 395
Pokemon of the week #7 is Empoleon

Overview (From Smogon):
Empoleon is the next of the DPP starters to fall into the UU tier, along with its close friend, Torterra. However, it is a fantastic Pokemon to make use of, as its well rounded stats and fantastic typing let it thrive in the UU metagame. With only three weaknesses, a massive eleven resistances, and one immunity, Empoleon's typing definitely makes it the great Pokemon that it is in UU. This, when coupled with support moves such as Stealth Rock and Roar, further increases Empoleon's viability, and it makes a great specially defensive tank. Empoleon can also go on the offensive, and with Agility, a Life Orb, and great coverage, it can do some great damage late-game. It does have a few issues, however. A lack of recovery on a defensive Pokemon is always a burden, but Empoleon can make up for this with its great Special Defense. Enjoy using Empoleon's assets, as they are very valuable in today's metagame.

Empoleon the attacker @ Life Orb
Adamant
Defiant
252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
-Swords Dance
-Waterfall
-Drill Peck
-Double Hit/Aqua Ring

Empoleon isn't usually an attacker, but it could be with a few adjustments. Also of attackers are fast and powerful. So that is what we are going to try to do with this Pokemon. Since he isn't usually fast we give he a lot of speed. Waterfall & Drill Peck it attacks. Waterfall may make the other Pokemon flinch and it has STAB so it is even better. It my not be powerful, but it delivers. Drill Peck is not STAB worthy, but it is a powerful attack. Double Hit is optional, and Aqua Ring is used when you know someone is switching or made a bad choice.

Tankguin @ Wise Glasses
Bold
Torrent
252 DEF, 128 SP ATK, 124 HP, 4 SP DEF

Surf
Featherdance
Ice Beam
Hidden Power (Psychic, 70 Power)

This Empoleon revolves around one thing, and one thing only. KEEPING PHYSICAL ATTACKERS STAPLED DOWN. As any Fighting-type could easily plow through an ill-equipped Empoleon, this one in particular comes with a few tricks. First, it's been bred and trained for Defense, so it can tank physical hits. Use Featherdance to further cripple those attackers who oppose you. It's item, Wise Glasses, raise the power of Special moves by 10%, aiding it's other 3 moves in the arsenal. Still getting owned by Fighters? The Hidden Power on this Empoleon is Psychic-type! Empoleon's special movepool is limited to 6 types (Water, Ice, Normal, Grass, Ground, Bug), so this Hidden Power should stun most people who are familiar with it's unusually bland movepool. Have fun taking down those trying to take out this Empoleon: they'll be blindsided by it's ability to sweep. Use with caution, however: it's Speed is not as good as most others, so be sure to throw some support out before giving the opponent a dose of Empoleon
