I think I got better as I went along. I started with Minccino. I did the ears from scratch, since they were entirely too big on the Pokemon sprite...and they're still a little too big. And I know you said to recolor the hair to match the Pokemon...but I think with the Pikachu one it actually looked better with her regular hair color. Pikachu's my favorite of this batch. |

The Duskull doesn't look very halloween-ish. When people think of halloween they thing of orange Jack 'o Lanterns, scary costumes; anything frightening. Not purple ghosts with G hats. =p And the Lopunny was meant to be scratched; not fused. The Mr. Mime was fine, although it would look better with a santa hat or a sack. 1 - You always have Google to search themes you don't understand
2 - Scratching means to create markings from scratch. You make every pixel, every color. You make the object or accessory yourself 3 - No. You just need to recolor it to look like that. But you have to follow the way the hawk is colored. Not Fearow. |

Recolors are when you swap two Pokemon's colors to make them look like the other. It's the simplest and easiest form of spriting. Here's some guidelines: - Never add any markings to the Pokemon. You only change the colors. not markings. - Always save as .PNG or .GIF. No other file type. - Remember to recolor the outlines to match the Pokemon's new colors. - Recolor lightest shade to lightest, darkest to darkest. Now that that's done, here's your first assignment: Marill as Hoppip Cyndaquil as Audino Cubchoo as Buizel They look amazing. I love the Dialga trainer. Ghetsis just goes so well with him. Congratulations! You pass Trainers. :3 |

As you can see, their is your recolored Oshawott and it's official sprite. Notice how Oshawott has shading to give it depth and make it realistic? And noticed how your sprite doesn't? Yeah. That's not necessarily a good thing. You don't mess with the shading in the sprites. You keep it. Dont't add any; don't take any. And you see the colors below the Oshawott? Those are the colors you used for the outlines. The original ones are on the left. The ones on your sprite are on the right. They're never supposed to be identical. Like I've said many times in this thread. Always recolor the outlines to match the new Pokemon's colors. Hopefully this time you'll get it right. Once again. Your sprites are hideous because they have: No shading and no recolored outlines. And they're not recolored fully either. Disregard Oshawott's missing outlines, by the way. |

Thanks for the easy ones, Shiny. [/sarcasm]
Audino doesn't have as many colors as you think. Neither does Buizel. I did a bit of improvising, so not all the colors are from the other Pokémon's palette, instead they're custom ones to fit the shading. Oh, and I didn't recolor on Chubchoo's nose bubble. :3 Last edited by Ningamer; April 27, 2011 at 09:07:40 AM. |

I've got GIMP but I really can't be bothered. What does a transparent background even add to the image? It doesn't even make a difference to the sprite itself.
Just to prove I can do transparency though, go to the "Now Hiring" thread in the VictoryBattles board and look at my posts. I've put at least 40 of them damn sprites in transparent boxes! 3X Last edited by Ningamer; April 27, 2011 at 12:16:46 PM. |

Nuuuu it takes TWENTY seconds! First you've gotta add an alpha channel, then delete the white bits with your magic wand, then you've gotta SAVE the freaking thing... I know it makes it look more professional (It doesn't really make it look any "better" though), but since when have you seen a school be professional, let alone school work. >:I

The flames, tail, accessories, etc. Making new shades for extra colors is fine. I do that a lot whenever the Pokemon doesn't have enough colors. As long as they're somewhat relatable to the palette you edited it from. Whirlipede as Ivysaur Gurdurr as Machoke Goldeen as Whiscash And while we're on the topic of transparency. I don't care if you make them transparent or not. All I care about is that you do the sprites right or correct. or at least try to if you think you're bad at them. If you noticed, I never gave anyone extra credit for having transparent backgrounds. Your sprites aren't going on a front page for everyone to see. So you don't need to worry about it. :3 |

Some people think you just recolor them, but that's not the case. As always, here's a checklist: - Edit the shading. The old sprites had no shading, or dithering shading. You have to completely edit the shading to make it look like a new sprite. - Fix disproportionate parts: If you see a messed up hand. Fix it. This might involve scratching a finger, or scratching the whole thing. Just fix parts that are messed up. - Recolor the outlines. The new sprites don't have all black outlines. They have colored ones too. First assignment: revamp them all using HG/SS or B/W colors. ^^ They look pretty good for being "hard" Pokemon to recolor. They're virtually flawless. Nothing done wrong here. One more assignment then an exam: Krookodile as Cofagrigus Garchomp as Druddigon Heatmor as Shiny Darmanitan |

Now time for your exam: Giratina as Cresselia Rayquaza as Darkrai Kerudio as Terrakion Genesect as Cresselia Quote:
Well, the first thing I noticed is the shading. The shading isn't edited in any way. You kept the same shading for every sprite. I'll show you an example on Nidoran; If you notice, they have the exact same shading, except the revamp has some minor edits. Then, we have the outlines. They're all spotty and black, which makes them crappy. You want to have the outlines without any spots, and not all black. Now here's a revamp I did: If you noticed, the Revamped Blastoises's shading isn't identical to the Silver sprite. It's completely edited. And the outlines, if you can see, are not spotty like your Nidoran. When you Revamp, you don't want to have any shading from the original sprite on the new sprite. A good way to do this is by making the sprite one color respectably. Make it look flat with no shading. Then, you start shading by adding the highlights. These are the lightest colors of the Pokemon. Once you get the highlight in, add the shadows. These are the darkest color of the Pokemon. After you're done with the shading, it's time for the outlines. Make the whole outline all black. Now using the shading you added, adjust the outlines to make it colorful. Where you have a highlight, is where the colored outline will be near. You never want the outline to be colored where a shadow would be, as the light source will never reach that part of the body. Understand? Your next assignment will be to redo the former assignment. |

Dragonite: It looks good. The theme was quite simple, and you dulled the original colors. Registeel: I, honestly, have no idea where your brother got the idea of a chocolate Registeel from a rusty Registeel. They're hardly relatable. Either way, it looks rusty, so it's following the theme. Mew: I love this one. Although it's fused, it looks excellent. The color scheme looks good, but when I think of angels I usually think of white and yellow, not light pink and light grayish. Congratulations! You have passed Advanced Recolors. Your fusions are fairly good for a first try. The fusion with more than 2 Pokemon, is, what I'd have to say your worst. All the parts on the Pokemon are all different colors. When you fuse more than 2 Pokemon, you choose one of the Pokemon's color schemes. You just don't keep them like that.
Some fusions could have some nice, cleaner cuts. When you don't give them a clean cut, it makes the sprite look jagged and bad. Anyways, let's start with a first assignment: Charmander and Mudkip (Charmander Base) Oshawott and Pikachu (Mijumaru base) Honestly, IMO, the Bastiodon/Rampardos fusion is your best out of all of them. ^o^ Last edited by Shiny; May 13, 2011 at 04:48:22 PM. |

Never, ever as .JPG - Always recolor lightest shade to lightest, darkest to darkest, etc. - Never edit the Pokemon's shading. Ever. Always make sure you change all of the old colors to the new ones. This includes any edge colors. You can see where I've circled that your Whiscash still has a lot of the old yellow/gold colors left on it, as well as the blue in the tail fin. Tangrowth has a lot of shading issues, and mis-replacement of colors. In the face, you completely got rid of the shading, which is something you never want to do. You also left some of the old darker grey on the legs, and a lot of the edges and definition lines are the old colors as well. Your colors on Kabuto were good for the most part. It doesn't look like you colored the eyes at all, though. And again, some of the old colors on the edge at the top are still there. Naturally, yours don't have to look like the ones I did. I just whipped up some examples for you to show a little better what I was talking about. Next assignment is: Gastrodon (either one) recolored as Meinfoo Moltres recolored as Dratini Dugtrio recolored as Dusknoir |

I like the Cottonee/Petilil. It's simple, which really is all you can expect with so little to fuse together on those two. Ducklett/Archen isn't bad, either. Personally, I'd like to have seen more brought over from Archen, like maybe the wings or the beak. And before I give you something else, I'd really like to at least see an attempt with Meditite/Gothita. If it helps, try mirroring one of the sprites so that they face the same direction. (CTRL+M is usually the command for it) |

You only have to recolor the first one listed, using the colors from the second one. So, it would be taking Mudkip as a base, and recoloring it using Charmander's colors. Then Pikachu as the base, and using Lillipup's colors. Then Pansear, using Purrloin's colors. So, that's only a total of three you have to do, not six. I mean, if you want to do that many, go for it...but it's not necessary. Last edited by Chibi; June 3, 2011 at 09:19:53 AM. |

These are MUCH better. The only issue I really have is with Moltres. You still left some of the original outline coloring on the body (it's kind of a orangish-brown). Other than that...great. Big improvement over the first assignment.
Next assignment is: Togetic as Quilfish Anorith as Petilil Cloyster as Dunsparce |

Anorith and Cloyster are fantastic. Anorith did have some pixels here and there that weren't recolored, but not really enough to be noticeable.
And then Togetic. It was kinda bad. Not really sure what you did with the eyes and mouth, but in just Basic Recoloring, you never add or take away things...which is what it looks like you did, I think. You again left pretty much all of the original outline color instead of matching it to Quilfish. And I'm not sure why, but there's a ton of missing pixels around the edge, making it look really jagged and cut up. Next assignment: Lickilicky as Natu Musharna as Spinarak Leafeon as Combee If these turn out pretty good, we'll move on to the exam after this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quite. That really wasn't all that hard, now was it. It looks good, too. Next Assignment: Snorunt and Shiftry (pick base) Masquerain and West Sea Shellos (Shellos Base) Omanyte and Oddish (pick base) And please. Try them all. No excuses this time. |
