Haha, sometimes I just hope that the process doesn't end up taking the better part of a year. Or two. Or a decade. I suspect there might be a lot more red tape for foreigners.

    Apologies for the delayed reply...

The delay often varies... sometimes, the employer gets back with the interviewee immediately, and sometimes it takes up to a month.

As for resume templates, here's one that I modified as an example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2vq62ytljy...sume.docx?dl=0

I of course used fictional names and locations in the modified version of my original resume.

    Haha...

Know any suitable templates for me to start with? Even though it won't be anything done quickly I think I might want to have a good way to get started on the entire thing.

Probably going a bit too early in this regard for now, though. Right now I'm just thinking that I probably have very bad timing...

Not being an employee that flips jobs quickly would help a little bit, too, so I probably won't be immediately jumping ship. How long is the delay between applying for jobs in the USA and finally being confirmed, usually?

My only advice for employment in the USA, and this is from personal experience: when you're writing up your resume, it would be better to keep your experience section to a minimum of maybe 10 items, even though you may have a lot of different skills. Also, make sure to list skills that you think they want to see. The point of this is to leave an employer wanting more.

I say this because there have been too many times where my job opportunities were turned down because I was "overqualified" for the job. In my opinion, over-qualification is just a professional way of saying "take your skills and shove them," and it's a shame that employers are too scared of highly-skilled employees; time after time, opportunity knocks and the employers fail to answer, and then it's far too late when they realize what they could have had.

All that ranting aside, I wish you the best of luck. Who knows? One day we might encounter one another in the USA.

I'd love to have a newer ThinkPad than my 385ED, but on the same note, a Macintosh PowerBook with a Motorola 68040 would also be great. The PowerBook would be small enough for my already-limited electronics "real estate," and yet plenty powerful enough to allow me to transfer photos from my QuickTake camera. The serial adapter I created always seems to make my ThinkPad hang, so for compatibility reasons, I don't really have much choice other than to buy any pre-1998 Macintosh. Again, at this moment, finding space for another computer is getting a little bit dicey.

I was hoping to get a job in the Information Technology (IT) field and put my hard-earned experience to use. Seeing that there's only one major computer shop in town, and that the pawnshops who build computers aren't very respectable, I'm willing to take any kind of technology-related job, as long as it's not retail or customer service (neither of which are my forte).

Yeah, I can totally relate to you in regard to college. I've lived it.

While we're at it, normalize them to 96db. Don't worry about it complaining about some minor clipping I'm just not OK with anything above 96. (16-bit audio files have a 96 dB dynamic range.)

I think I deleted the original files, but if you still had the 128K files on your PC, try running MP3Gain on these files. Bogus files will have no volume stat or have an absurdly high dB.

    That's okay. :3

...And I'm one post closer to completing what I hope will be the last reorganization project for my audio zone.

Also, I would be beholden if you helped me identify the Layer II remixes. I think they were like that before I started exporting to lossless format in my Logic Pro days.

Fixed the link. The file, unfortunately, has a bit rate of 128K, and I'm still working to resolve that issue with my files, even if I have to upsample the MP3's I currently have.

I can take a look. I'll let you know if I find anything, although I did lose a lot of my older original files when my MacBook croaked.

I usually convert my remixes so that they're either 192 or higher, but there's rare occasions where I'll use lower bit rates. An example of said occasions is, when a 10 MB max file limit is enforced.

Out of curiosity, do you still have the original masters (so to speak)? I'd love to have a set that isn't 128K MP3. Preferably 320K MP3 (for compatibility and battery life).

I was going through music in a neglected folder, cataloguing and normalizing. Turns out the tracks in The Best of Aura Force are... uh...

How cool is this? There apparently is a full operating system called Menuet that you can boot from a floppy disk, of all types of storage media. If I ever get around to fixing the floppy drive, I may try Menuet on the IBM P70 portable. I hope it will work with an 80386DX...

It's funny how the OS goes from "mainly 16-bit with some 32-bit" (Windows 3.1x) to "mainly 32-bit with some 16-bit" (Windows 98 SE) to "32-bit" (the rest)

It's a shame going 64-bit would ruin the upgrade chain since it's not possible to go across architectures.

A very interesting concept, although I wish my IBM P70 was alive enough for me to try that on. I still need to get the capacitors replaced on its floppy drive before I try using the "suitcase" beyond IBM PC BASIC. X3

Heck, I should just not bother with the floppy drive and turn the old computer into a Raspberry Pi.

So I was thinking about it in the shower, and I just wondered whether this is even possible for a Windows 3.1x computer:

    1. Change hardware components to meet Windows 98 Second Edition's requirements if not already so
    2. Upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition
    3. Change all hardware but the hard disk drive from 3.1x-era hardware to 2003 top-of-the-line hardware; if RAM > 1 GB, install 1 GB or less
    4. Install all drivers
    5. Image the hard disk and put it into a <127GB HDD, then extend the partition
    6. Upgrade to Windows XP
    7. Install remaining RAM
    8. Upgrade to Windows Vista
    9. Upgrade to Windows 7
    10. Upgrade to current hardware
    11. Upgrade to Windows 8
    12. Upgrade to Windows 8.1

    a. Would such an upgrade chain leave behind Windows 3.1x stuff in 8.1?

I was talking about your Surface. :3

Yeah, I bought the Lenovo... the Asus I was looking at had a 90-day warranty because it was refurbished, so I opted for a completely new computer with a 2-year warranty. The Lenovo has 8 GB of RAM and a terabyte of hard disk space, which is twice as much as what Asus offered in their R500A. In other aspects, both brands carried the same specifications: DVD burner, USB 3.0, HDMI and VGA out, and Wireless N support, among others.

So far, I'm absolutely loving both Windows 8 and the Lenovo itself. Having been on Mac OS X for the past few months, I'm still getting used to it, especially now that there's a numeric keypad. Conversely, my MacBook has no such keypad.

Finally deciding on getting a new computer (something I've been putting off for a few months... XD ), and it seems I'm most likely going with a Lenovo G500s. I just need a solid machine for mid-to-high performance gaming, as well as audio, photo, and video editing. :3

Your computer is a dream, compared to mine; my MacBook has a Core 2 Duo from 2007, and it also has only an integrated GPU... it's several generations behind the present times, and the Intel Core CPU line has of course evolved considerably since 2007.

As for the music files... I don't know about the second and third Deus Ex installments, but if memory serves, the music files for the first installment are in a format called .UMX, which is essentially a derivative of the ImpulseTracker .IT format. I presume you can find the .UMX files in the Data folder if Steam supports local hard drive storage, and to play them, you'd need a media player that can read chiptune files. Fortunately, VLC works well with chiptunes.

An interesting fact: The .UMX file format is also used in some of the Unreal games.

Haha, that game takes only 25% of CPU (saturating only one thread), and it seems like that "not doing work" counts as "idle" on my laptop's ultra-low-voltage Core i5. Intel Core-series processors are scary efficient when it comes to heat while doing nothing much. Also, the biggest heat generator in my laptop is the separate GPU, and it has two GPUs - one integrated to the CPU itself and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 M. Deus Ex is lightweight enough to run with everything cranked up to the maximum at 1024x768 (my laptop's screen is 768 pixels tall) on the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and still not break a sweat in hitting 60 FPS.

I completed it a few days ago, and... it's certainly an interesting mix of... an FPS, an RPG, and it certainly felt very nice even without hand-holding.

The music is the icing on the cake. If only there was a way to play the music outside of the game.

Aiptek, yes. In the very beginning, Aiptek specialized in graphics tablets and desktop trackpads, but now they offer digital cameras as well. I have one of their Action HD cameras, which has 10x optical zoom, 8 megapixels, and can shoot up 1080p video at 30 Hz. It's pretty nice for an inexpensive camcorder, but now that I have my iPhone 4S, I rarely use the Aiptek anymore.

Since I'm thinking of ordering the Minolta Maxxum 5, I think the tripod has to be able to hold the weight of a compact film SLR.

At least film SLRs are pretty light as cameras go - they're just slightly heavier than a mirrorless camera as long as you aren't looking at professional-grade bodies.

    Still...

I'd like to have a tripod that is weighty enough.

I think I might need a shoulder bag. Probably going to ask them "what can fit a film SLR, its lens, a Sony NEX-5R, its 55-210mm lens (the 16-50mm is pancake), at least 2 135 film cartridges, flashes, batteries (at least 2 CR2s and 1 extra InfoLithium), and a tripod.

I don't remember how many pounds/kilograms my tripod is, but it's pretty lightweight. In terms of portability, I have no idea how well it would fit in a typical shoulder bag, but its legs are telescopic, and the unit can be completely collapsed. Well worth the $30 I spent on it.

    Hmm

I was thinking of something way more portable, since I don't want to end up carrying kilos of equipment. (My NEX kit still comes in below 1 kg, considering both the camera, batteries, SDHC card, kit lens, and 55-210mm.)

APS-C digital cameras have come a long way :3

Targus makes a decent tripod for what you might need it. I've had mine for a few years and it's definitely stood the test of time between accidental knock-overs (with no camera attached), and being taken down and set up. It's definitely served me well. :3

    Hmm...

I think I really should get a camera shoulder bag or something. The bag I have right now is only for the camera itself, the flash, and its kit lens (that's collapsed by design). I need space for one more lens, so...

Shopping time? Might as well as get a tripod. The smaller kind for compact system cameras.

Yeah, it gives me a lot of personal satisfaction when I build something with whatever I have laying around, and my custom-built Sega Genesis video cable is no exception. Building things to my own needs just helps me stay in touch with my inner engineer.

    Hm? Tripod mount?

I guess you're the DIY guy. I prefer to work with pre-existing tools.

Looks like I'll just bother with a 5.

    Hmm...

Now, let's see the choices for me to get an SLR experience...

The 5 would be cheapest up-front, but it would be film and costs will rack up eventually.
Getting a new Sony SLT would be pretty expensive relatively, but it'll be mew and digital, though it's APS.
I can also bolt on an EVF and an A-mount adapter, complete with mirror, on my camera, though it is a power sink and looks unwieldy. Duper expensive, too!

I want to get into A-mount in some way, though. 50mm/1.7 is too good to pass on!

I'm going to have to settle with the 5, though, because that is semi-recent (2000), in better-than-excellent condition at KEH, cheap, and actually uses batteries that are sold here (CR2).

Holy moly, you can swap film cartridges mid-roll and reuse them on the 7? ISO swaps just got a whole lot easier... if you ever need it. (I probably won't)

I think I might be getting a Minolta Alpha/Maxxum/Dynax 7 or something like that.

Then again I probably can only afford getting a warranted-by-KEH 7xi.

I'm wondering if there's an equivalent battery that you can obtain. Or if you're adventurous, you could try to rig something and replicate what you need with regular batteries.

I know that my Canonet 28 accepts LR44 button cells, even though it was designed for use with a PX625, a now-obsolete, 1.35 V mercury button cell. Speaking of the Canonet, check this out:

The one I have is the 1971 rangefinder version, but I would love to have the 1968 viewfinder version as well.

    Hehe. Sergal?

I really, really want to get a vintage Minolta Maxxum/Dynax/Alpha, because I know that whatever lens I use with it, I'll be able to use it later on a Sony DSLR or adapt it officially to my NEX-5R. But Canon is tempting me with a 50mm f/1.8.

On the other hand, though, nobody here sells 2CR5 batteries, and I'm having a look at some Minolta bodies that can take AAs or CR2s.

Until I can find a nicer-looking set of Zorua pictures, I'll be feeling a little bit "sergal-riffic"... XD

I also have an old Yashica Electro 35 GS that my grandmother gave to me, but I can't use it, since someone (not me) overtightened a telephoto lens while attaching it. I'll hang onto it in the hopes that I can find another functional Yashica to use, so that I may be able to repair the one I inherited. I also ought to buy a cheap 35mm camera with tripod mount from a secondhand shop, so that I can use its base with my iPhone.

    *reads materials for Maxxum 7000*

*keeps thinking that it seems to be aimed for compact upgraders, with it proclaiming how easy-to-use it is*

*notices that lots of Minolta SLRs seem to be aimed at them*

Many of them talk about automatic functions :3
