Sorry, I was gone white water rafting for the weekend(on a side note, I had to wake up 4 in the morning after getting only 4 hours of sleep to get to the camp on time and I don't know why, but I didn't sleep at all during the car ride.
). But, um, as for some details, the main thing I remember from that day was that it was god-awful. I was with a crew from my scout troop, and I had to be the pace-setter that day. So in the morning, we got a little late start because we were doing some rock climbing, so by the time we got on the trail it might have been around 8..ish(we usually probably start hiking around 6). So we're hiking, and we pretty much just going through an average trail, and then we start to hike in a valley. The funny thing about this, heh, was that it was the perfect time of year to hike at Philmont because guess what? It was monsoon season! And you know what that means... STORMS!!!
So basically, I have to hike with a good-sized crew behind me and become wet from the storm, not only adding weight but also making me miserable. And just when you think things just might not get possibly worse... LIGHTNING! On a trail! With no protection! Yay! So we have to wait for the lightning to pass and get under trees and get in the lightning position, letting the rain soak my body even more... Once the lightning passes, or at least is over a mile away from us, then we finally get back on the trail, feeling soaked, going on for what seemed like forever, even though ironically it was one of the shorter hikes, and to make things worse, water was passing right through the center of the trail. And after what seemed like an eternity, we finally, FINALLY reached the camp. So we went to the staff cabin, went over a few things, and went to our camp to set up for camping and whatnot. After that the day went nice. (cont'd)
