Bird? Fish? No offense but those are already covered by Water and Flying. I see no need for new types at all. The only readon Dark and Steel were added was because Psychic was so broken in Gen. 1. The types are now balanced, and there is no need for a new one.

I'd like a Light type...
the Space idea is REALLY COOL >;D I've never thought of that, but I really like that idea I don't see the problem with more types... especially because they want to really "change" how Pokemon is looked at... adding another (more?) type(s) would be coolio ^_~ |

I think that there should be a crystal type. It's a fairly solid idea, since there can be many applications to crystal-type moves.
As for light: It's the perfect way to counter dark-type, but there would need to be a type that can overpower it, which I don't see happening. |

We've gone two generations with new Pokemon but no new types. I don't really see any need for new types. If they can think of one or two new good ideas that wouldn't mess up the type chart too much, I'm all for it, but none of those ideas I've seen make much sense.

If you think of it logically, Zorua/Zoroark should have been not dark if a new type was going to be introduced. I mean, they would have introduced the first Pokemon with a new type to let us think about it. I think that more combination will be given, like fire/water Pokemon, or something like that.

Plasma? Why? Wood? Extra pointless! Fish? Weak to fishing rods obviously! Bird? No. Just, no. Space? Although cool sounding, only a few Pokemon will be in this type, if in game. (Clefairy family, Solrock, Lunatine... misspelled? Deoxys, Jirachi) |

But seriously, normal types are on the weak side. Pokemon types that resist normal type attacks: Steel, rock Types that normal types resist: NOOOOTHIIIING Super effective types that hit normal hard: Fighting Pokemon that get hit by normal types hard:NOOOOOOOOOOOTHING! Yea, as you can see normal type is on the weak side. And fighting types moves are INCREDIBLY common. Practically every pokemon can learn a strong fighting move now like Superpower, or close combat, and as of HG and SS almost every pokemon can learn low kick through move tutor, which brings strong walls like snorlax to its knees. Tis a grim world out there for normal types. Last edited by Sunny; April 23, 2010 at 08:10:02 AM. |

I think adding a new type or two would be pretty neat, but I can't come up with anything that either doesn't sound absurd or isn't covered by the other types.
The only thing I've got is if they officially endorse a Pokemon with the Unknown Type (It's really annoying to say '???' in conversation) I'm not sure what it could be strong against, but it would be nice to see something weak against Normal Type moves, like Lite suggested. |

Light. One Pokemon, the legendary, for Pokemon White.
Maybe a "Dusk" Pokemon to counter it in Pokemon Black. Super-effective hits for Light/Shadow attacks on only each other, normal hits on other Pokemon. Weaknesses are only to each other. Both have same stats so both can counter each other (all a matter of luck and how you train). Nuff said. |

Hence the name 'normal...' That aside, I will need to agree with the people that say that there is no more need for another type. Besides, ideas such as 'fish' or 'bird' do not truly fit into the traditional form of the Pokemon 'types.' Note how the other Pokemon types are all elemental. Such as Water, Electric, Steel, etc. There are a couple debatable ones such as Psychic, Ghost, and Dark. Fish and bird are classifications, not types. (Something you would see in a Pokedex entry.) Thanks for the time, -Pichu |

I would really find it both unlikely and a bit stupid to have an extra type added. "Light", "Holy"... the spiritual counterpart of Dark is Normal. It doesn't have anything in it that opposes Dark, but it's fine the way it is. Arceus and Regigigas were great to see that there can be Normal legendaries too. I see no point in adding any extra types to the game.

If any type is to be added to the game, it's Light type. It's still not likely, but it's there. Instead of that rivalling Dark, they would have to make another type, like Dusk (As Justjack said). The possibility of them adding two more types is low, however.

I, personally would like to see the type "sound" introduced. Sure, it'd require a bit of work to re-balance the type chart, re-code the game to change some of the moves' and pokemons' types, but I think it be great. Off the top of my head, Exploud, Chimecho, Mr. Mime, and Jigglypuff are all candidates for the type. It would cut down on the obscene number of normal types in the game... a little.

U figure at least 1 new type would be made, cause the move curse has a ???? type and they should fill in that ???? as a real type. That way arceus can have that last 18th plate that they made as a backup data in case that type was put on it.

You forget, Curse isn't the same for all Pokemon.
Curse lowers a user's stat by 1 and raises the Attack and Defense by 1. Except for Ghost Pokemon. When a Ghost Pokemon uses Curse, the opponent Pokemon suffers a Curse effect, which slowly eats away at HP after cutting the user's HP in half. And a "Light" Pokemon is a little stupid. They entire reason the Dark type was made was to counter the non-stop power of Psychic. Sound would be interesting, but what are the pros and cons of the type? |

Sound could be a dragon-esque type. You know, nothing's really weak to it, nothing's really resistant to it (dragon is weak to dragon and steel is resistant to dragon, but other than that, the type itself is pretty much a neutral-coverage type). What would the point of it be then? Nothing really, I suppose... other than if your pokemon knew a sound-type move you wouldn't need to worry about not being able to hit an opponent. That, and shock wave is an electric type move just because it has the word "shock" in it. Shock waves don't have anything to do with electricity. It's just something that irks me.

I understand actually, I had very little time to write up what I was going to say.
Okay, so, first, I will answer your question. It would probably be strong against bug (those poor bug types), rock (see an exploud in a cave), Psychic (possibly for the same reason bug is super effective against psychic), and fighting. It would be 'not very effective' against steel (sound-proof rooms), Electrodes and voltorbs, Water, and ineffective against ground (Although ground already has one of those ineffective things, so it may only be not very effective). Sound would be weak against ground, steel, and sound. Now, to the second point I wanted to make. I personally think the current type set is quite effective and fine as it is. I am personally quite adamant about keeping the type set as it is. I hope to not come across too negatively... -Pichu |

I think the reason a sound system is destroyed by water is because of the circuitry (if you're talking about just dumping a bucket of water on a sound system). Maybe psychic could be weak to sound. Telepathy and telekinesis are things usually associated with deep concentration, and what's more irritating than constant, ear-splitting noise?

Hmmm Sound does seem like a good type with the logic of what it can beat and what it is weak to! But it would be kinda difficult to base a Pokemon off of sound... stuff like Grass and Rock is easy, but making a Pokemon that looks like sound seems kinda tricky.

Are you a mind reader? I have been thinking of a machine type. Such as Bronzong. Water would short it, being super effective on it. Electricity could power it, giving it HP. Fire could melt it, being super effective on it.

I think the two best canidates are sound and light.
Light moves are effective against: Dark, Ghost, Light moves are not effective against: Water, Grass Light types resist: Dark, Ghost, Psychic Light types are weak against: Grass, Water Sound moves are effective against: Rock, Ice, Psychic, Dark Sound moves are not effective against: Steel, Water Sound types resist: I really can't think of anything Sound types are weak against: Water, Steel I hope this helps a little ^_^ |

I think that's what they were going for, but since Psychic is better to personate, they went with Psychic types. Light could be personated... but it'll be more religious than anything, and that's not cool, unless they have a religion based around Arceus. =3
