Default Mobile device performance and OSes

Have you ever wondered how given the same hardware (levels), Windows Phone and iOS seems to run smoother than an equivalent Android?

For some reason my phone doesn't even choke on desktop pages.

In my opinion it's all dependent on hardware as much as the software. My Galaxy Nexus has no trouble loading desktop pages either, and it's an Android.

That might be true, but you know, it might have a bit of a problem when you start to compare its internal guts to, well...

Woefully inefficient, no? If Android were running on my phone's hardware, it'd probably choke.
