Default Dark Souls

Dark Souls has been known by many to be an insanely difficult and irritating game. However, that shouldn't scare people off since the game play itself and very welcoming to ANYBODY as long as they're ready to put a lot of effort into it. The game itself is the spiritual successor to the game Demon's Souls, a game in which came out in 2009. Despite Dark Souls being very hard, it's also a very rewarding game. With a dark and mysterious atmosphere filled with enemies and NPCs.

If you want to progress anywhere within the game, you have to make sure to make grinding a big deal since killing enemies gains you souls. And souls are your main currency in Dark Souls. Ranging from repairing your equipment, modifying a weapon, or even leveling up your character and his/her attributes. The boss fights (albeit very hard, depending on your point of view) are quite possible the main pinnacle of the game. With all seeming aggressive and ready to kill you, however, if you gained humanity in the game. You can use that at the bonfire as a way to regain from "Hollow" status (basically undead) to "Human" status. Allowing you the ability to summon phantoms for boss fights. Making a seemingly hard fight seem a little easier. Then again, the hard part is actually gaining the humanity to allow help. (something that is few and far between in the game) Careful sword play is needed such as being able to backstab and enemy or parrying them and going for the kill.

Besides gaining souls and humanity, you can also gain shards into the game to change your "normal" weapon, into a "Raw", "Fire", "Divine", or even a "Crystal" weapon. Depending on the option you go with. Armor is also a big deal, as it allows how much weight is going to be on your character. Reflecting on how fast you need to be going. (speed is a very big deal in this game in order to dodge roll enemy attacks) The weight of your character is as important as it is the armor/equipment you have. Since the enemies are almost always fast and aggressive.

EDIT: Estus Flask is also a big deal in the game as they serve as your potions, once you've gained human status from reverse hollowing, you can also kindle at a bonfire for more Estus Flask. Giving you more oppurtunities to heal yourself.

Warning: If you end up getting killed, you lose all your souls and humanity. This can be recovered by coming back to them but it's advisable you use your souls as much as you can towards certain weapons/attributes, since you're gonna need them throughout the entire game. However, if you die again after trying to regain them, the souls and humanity will disappear and will make it even harder for to gained what is now lost forever.

So, tell me how you guys think of Dark Souls or the Souls series as a whole. (Especially now with Dark Souls 2 coming out)
