Default 3DS @ GDC: Next Mario Bros. Game, Netflix, and Attacks on Facebook & Apple

At the 2011 Game Developers Conference Nintendo pulled off what it seldom has managed to do: getting everything right. The biggest news is perhaps details into the latest Super Mario Bros. game for the 3DS; indeed this will be a completely new Mario adventure developed by the Super Mario Galaxy team (though this was somewhat already known), with some screenshots shown below (courtesy of ArsTechnica):

It was also revealed that Netflix would be coming to the 3DS sometime in the summer (possibly with glasses-free 3D movies like Avatar and ToyStory 3), that they have made a deal with AT&T to provide over 10,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots throughout the U.S. free-of-charge, and even took a hit on Apple's App Store idea with Quality vs. Quantity (a fanboi I may be, Nintendo is good when it comes to quality).

Anyone interested would be wise to read the original article at ArsTechnica. While I highlighted some of the better things in the speech, the entire liveblog is a great read for anyone who follows anything Nintendo.

I was watching that. Did you see the new Super Mario game's logo? There was a tail sticking out of the "o" in "Mario", which looked very familiar... I have a sneaky feeling that the Tanooki suit/leaf powerup is making a comeback.

And I hope Nintendo team up with BT over here, they have hotspots all over the country, so you can connect in almost any urban area.

AT&T though? :/ That's my only problem with this right now is that they're teaming up with quite possibly one of the worst ISPs in the nation.

It's going to be a great game, we can trust the developers seeing as they have made two of the best games of all time. The 3DS will be the best console ever.

I'm particularly optimistic about the new Super Mario game, since the developers working on it did a great job on both the Super Mario Galaxy titles.
Damn, I feel like I want a 3DS even more right now.
