I must say that I agree with this. Yoshi and I were discussing this more in depth and I actually came up with an idea to make a skit about this and put onto YouTube. It would go something like me playing Black on an old Game Boy as if it was 1998. Unfortunately, this could prove to be a big challenge for several reasons:
1) Almost no music to work with 2) Almost no Pokémon to work with 3) No cards to work with (except printing some fakes I see online) 4) No figures or anything similar to work with It might be a few months before I/we start, but the idea is to tell people to take off their nostalgia goggles. Also, topic moved to Older Pokémon Fans. |

Every generation has Pokémon that aren't really that original, including the earlier ones as much as the later ones. I think when people were newer to the franchise, they were eager to look for Pokémon in general, without a whole lot of concern for what they look like. In later generations, people get more cynical and begin to look strictly at the designs, focusing more on what is done wrong than on what is done right. People looking at this generation as the beginnings of Pokémon would see plenty of originality in what is present, simply because there aren't past Pokémon to compare it to as a 'derivative' or a 'clone' design.

I can't begin to describe in words the amount of awesome that is this thread.
Honestly though. It's the same thing every generation. There are always going to be Pokemon designs that you don't love, but there are going to be enough for you to go through the game with. Don't complain so much about the game and buy it on release date and end up loving it. If worst comes to worst, just use Pokemon from past generations and enjoy the new attacks, animations, and KO'ing these new monsters that you so hate. |

This thread is very true, though I think it is a bit exaggerated. The way I look at it isn't that the new designs are too lame, and think they're too... un-lame, for lack of a better word. They've got lots of features both physically and in terms of their abilities that you just don't see on the older Pokémon. The simplicity is what I like, quite honestly. Though I must admit, there are some Pokémon that, had they been released in Gen. I or II, I would like a lot more. I can't say I'm unbiased, and I see and agree with the point of this thread, but I can't say that, at least in my case, it's completely true.

I also wonder what Pokemon would replace Pikachu in the Super Smash Bros. series. Or what would happen to HG/SS and FR/LG. |

WOW! now Umbreon has a pre evolution! This is awesome! And I love the style of these new Pokemon! The realistic style drawing is amazing! And it's telling us the story of red and how he became champion! And it's about time the rival became champion! The music is awesome too! not the best in all areas but it's still great! I can't believe those nastalgic losers who still haven't gotten past gen 1! Although this is going to create more nastalgic loser hipocrits that say that nasalgia can't work both ways...
