Quad and Plaz are correct. Each month, I choose a pet that we haven't had for an event. Once all events have been used, I'll shuffle them up again and start over. Some events are given out annually, such as Delibird for Christmas/Hanukkah, (starting 2013) Luvdisc for Valentine's Day, (starting 2013) Voltorb twice for New Year's and American Independence Day, and (starting 2012) Duskull for Halloween. I'm considering withdrawing a couple more for other special days.
However, there are a total of 36 monthly events, so that means it will be roughly three years before I start over. Last edited by Cat333Pokémon; July 19, 2012 at 12:47:17 PM. |

Edit: That is one of the reasons you do not see Lugia, Heatran, Zapdos, etc. as an adopt. I am sure if you did something big for the site they would reward you. It is the nice this to do Last edited by teamplasma; July 19, 2012 at 02:10:01 PM. Reason: Spelling fails. |

1) It would take a lot of maintenance and I am positive that Cat has a lot on his plate already. 2) There isn't much logic behind it. 3) People wouldn't feel as special if they got a legend. 4) It is a time consuming this to make a website and then there are task that even after you have completed it follow it. Like repairing it. |

The entire VictoryBattles project was completely broken. After figuring out that very few people cared about anything beyond the adoption aspect, I wiped his project, coded the VRAC from scratch, and migrated over about 24,000 Pokémon (determination method shown in this thread).
Regarding the "random 6" aspect, specifically, well, that was a bit of a mess. First, a lot of people hated having over 1,000 Pokémon but still only having about fifty they cared about. (In the worst case, someone had approximately 13,000 Pokémon.) Second, it left a lot of mess in the database. Before, there were nearly 300,000 total adoptions (and with Freeze's poorly optimized table structure, that was over 100 MB alone), but again, only a tiny percentage of them were cared about. Third, the new system specifically includes methods of limiting how quickly you can acquire pets: no more than ten kept per day, with releasing required for more. Trust me when I say that it's for the best that system is gone. Almost nobody liked it, and it clogged the system up. |

I really only liked it because it was easier to get shines lmao, but you could have also made a "New Group" Button which would show a new 6 pokemon so you didn't have to choose one of them and have Pokemon you didn't care about.
Thats just my two cents, feel free to ignore it, I just like shiny Blue Pokemon. |

I was thinking, we should have an achievement pokemon.
Now I am not saying that there is going to be multiple ones, but here is my idea: I think that there should be a goal, and this goal could be "Find [said #] of Shinies", "Click [said #] of other peoples pets", "Adopt [said #] of Pokemon", "Share it on another Forum" or something challenging (or social) along those lines. And then when that one goal is complete they get an adoptable no one else had. The prize could also be a free shiny. If you chose that route then you could change the goal every so often to make it a little more fun. I think this will promote more activity on VRAC (which, IMO, would be good) and encourage people to share the site. Last edited by teamplasma; April 13, 2013 at 08:59:43 AM. |

We tried implementing an achievement system a few years ago. We got rid of it when we realized we had no idea what to use for achievements, and not many folks really cared about the few we had.
I will admit, if we had some really good ones, it could encourage folks to try to get them all. |

Yeah... I think I knew that, but I am just talking like, there would be a thread to request the shiny/"chosen adopt" that was the prize and the poster would give proof they did it and when you got time you would give 'em it.
I mean, the prize would be the incentive, not the goal. The goal could probably be the have a Koffing in your signature, and it would be enough if people liked the prize But thanks for the feedback. Last edited by teamplasma; April 13, 2013 at 05:36:18 PM. |

I think an achievement system would be interesting. In my opinion, prizes from achievements should go in the area under your username where your post count rank is (like somewhere around the Kyurem I have) in the form of badges or icons.

I've seen a few other forums use some sort of badge or achievement system and the biggest problem I can see from those places is the only people who will know just how amazing or special those badges/achievements are will be the regulars of the forum.
For example (if Cat doesn't mind me linking to another forum to prove my point), look at the user named "Hostile"'s post: http://forum.starmen.net/forum/Games.../1#post1919656 A couple of them have links attached to them, but what about the ones that don't? What exactly is the EarthBound Fanfest? What did this user do to get a badge that says "Hoy small fry!"? Only people who will really understand these badges are the longtime regulars of the forum, leaving newer users or people lurking the forum confused as to their meaning. If we were to implement a badge/achievement system on the site here, the badges would have to be self-explanatory, but meaningful, or have something in the FAQ or user bar that explains all the current visible/achievable achievements. |

It's obvious if we include achievements that hovering over them would give a detail or two about what they actually do. Just some ideas, but this is not confirmation that I would go through with this:
Super Poster Posted 1,000 times; don't your fingers hurt? Gotta Catch 'Em All Adopted all non-legendary, non-event pets on VRAC (in any stage of evolution) Big Cheese Won an official VR tournament without being accused of cheating New Record Got at least X points in X game in the arcade Trophy Hoarder Obtain a trophy for having the #1 score on an arcade game, or your name is Quad Picture Perfect Uploaded at least one photo to a photo album Gamer Contributed 500 posts to boards that don't count towards your posts Received at least one Like on a post Facebook Addict Received at least 100 Likes on posts Over the Hill Signed in after being registered for at least two years Fitting In Exchanged ten successful friend requests Gameł Played every game in the arcade at least once ??? This is a secret achievement żżż Read this text |

Yeah, but I obviously meant ones for VRAC... but if not then here are my other ideas:
If the ones under the name/userbar are too complicate, have a tab on the members profile that has the badges that person has been rewarded. So it isn't a system (and it might be easier), have a thread where a member posts when they want the badge and then any mod+ and add that their profile. Also if it is too much to do that you could just have "Number of Badges: [state number]" under the name/userbar. Then if the person really cares they can visit the profile and see what ones they have. If you do go through with this, have a thread for people to suggest the badges, so they feel like they were a part of it. (I am still not giving up on my original shiny idea ) |

That is what I am talking about. But I think we have 2 different takes on what being discussed. Anyways, I would be happy to see some of these ideas implemented into VRAC. ^-^
EDIT: (Also, a good achievement would be having an adopt at level [said level]) Last edited by teamplasma; April 14, 2013 at 02:22:19 PM. |

Yeah, a trading system has sat on the drawing board since before I even started coding. In fact, there's an entry attached to every pet (original owner) that only has a use with trading. The problem is I have no idea how to do it without making it annoying or useless.
